Arthritis and the Morton’s Toe, Long Second Toe

What is Arthritis?

According to the Arthritis Foundation, there are over one hundred types of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is the best known. They are diseases that affect the joints and the soft tissues in and around the joints. This is  what causes the arthritic pain. Many times flat feet caused by Morton’s Toe can cause arthritis. The most common form of bony arthritis that affects the whole body and the foot is called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is due to excessive stress and strain, or just plain old wear and tear on the joints of the foot and body, over a period of years. There are other types of arthritis that do not attack the joints, however.  These types of arthritis are called non-articulating arthritis and are inflammatory conditions. They affect the soft tissue as opposed to the bones. These soft tissue (non-bone) arthritis types are the most common foot problems that I see on a daily basis. They include such problems as: Bursitis, Tendinitis, tenosynovitis, capsulitis, and  fasciitis.

Morton’s Toe and Arthritis

Many things can cause arthritis in the feet but either directly or indirectly, it is caused a great deal of the time by Morton’s Toe , Long Second Toe. If your foot is constantly being abused on a day-in day-out basis due to a Morton’s Toe or other foot problems, sooner or later the damage to these joints and other soft tissue structures will end up giving you some form of arthritis. These conditions can cause as much pain as arthritis, and can appear either along with arthritis, or by themselves. Glucosamine is a very popular treatment
